The Secrets to Starting a Modeling Career
If you love being the center of attention, and are thinking of becoming a model but don't know where to start from consider reading the following guidelines that will help you become successful in a new field.
Figure out the Type of Modeling to Focus on.
Before starting on a modeling career, you need to understand what type of modeling you want to specialize in: print, commercial, runway, fitness, plus-size. Some agencies may deal with a particular type of modeling, so you had better figure out what your niche is and then start working on a portfolio that reflects your style and features varied headshots (serious, playful), and full-length shots in various outfits.
Find Local Modeling Agencies
Search the Internet to find modeling agencies in your town. It would be a good idea to ask a parent or trusted adult to help you contact the agencies. The chances are that you can come across a lot of scams out there. Be careful if an agency asks for money up front, it might be not legitimate. Find out how each agency handles submissions. After submitting your portfolio, wait a month before making a follow up call.
Look for Other Modeling Opportunities.
Check with local fashion design schools, department stores, or fashion boutiques to find out whether they need models for upcoming fashion shows.
Come up with a Backup Plan.
Being successful in modeling business requires a lot of persistence. You are unlikely to be able to pay your bills for a while at least, so it would be a good idea to have a backup plan. Many budding models work part-time while studying in high school and college. A lot of others supplement their income with another job. So think about what else you can do and how you could enhance your modeling career. For example, majoring in business, fashion design, or communications might help you make a brilliant modeling career as well. With talent, hard work, and enthusiasm, everything is possible!
